Popped into Central Perk for a coffee the other day. Had a look around, couldn't see Joey, Ross, Monica or Chandler. Gunther and Rachel weren't serving and there was no sign of Phoebe singing Smelly Cat.

Instead there were a couple of HMV employees giving out free lukewarm coffee, in a near perfect reconstruction of the original Central Perk set in Soho, London. The walls were adorned with props from the show, but the clear highlight was the famous sofa and arm chair, so much so that people were queueing to have their picture taken in it.

It's well worth a visit if you're in the area and don't mind the 20 minute queue to get in. Its a shame its only a temporary addition; With a bit of work, a permanent Central Perk would easily become the most popular caffeine based destination in the whole of London. Then who knows... a chain...? Hyde Perk?

Saw the 'The Invention of Lying' on Wednesday night.

I want to first start by saying, I love Ricky Gervais. I love the office & Extras. Ghost Town was good, The Podcasts are hilarious and I religiously read his blog. 

The Invention of Lying is.... well the concept is brilliant, Ricky as ever has some real laugh out loud moments, the direction & production are great and the writing is outstanding... however it seemed to be, at times, a bit compromised. There seemed to be parts of the dialogue which were nods and winks to the 'less intelligent' sections of the audience who couldn't & wouldn't grasp the subtleties of the premise.

The romantic element of this RomCom, High Concept film annoyed me. I couldn't quite bring myself to believe the relationship between Gervais and Garner. Why would he want to be with such a shallow person and I don't think she deserved to be with him.That said its defiantly worth a watch, but perhaps wait until the DVD release, Its probably better suited to the small screen.

I was walking along minding my own business last week when my heart decided to go crazy and withhold oxygen from my brain, so I passed out. A policeman insisted I go to hospital, so I was admitted to St Thomas A&E.

They first made an diagnosis of SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia) and wanted to inject me with a drug that apparently make you go paranoid for a few minutes thinking everyone is trying to kill you.

Upon further examination it turns out i had a type of of SVT called Atrial Flutter; a condition I suffered from whilst at uni, which 'coincidently' also caused me to pass out. Atrial Flutter causes an abnormal heart rhythm and increases my resting heart rate to 140-250 beats per minute.

Cardioversion
Last time I had the condition they used a procedure called Synchronized Electrical Cardioversion to correct the flutter. I was sedated and had two defibrillation pads put on my chest, then an electric shock was administered to reset my heart and return it two sinus rhythm; leaving to large burn marks on my chest.

After injecting me all over including in my stomach and keeping me in over night for observaition they handed me a bag of beta blockers and blood thinners and explained that over the next few months I'll be continuously in and out of hospital (already had 4 visits since last Friday and two more next week).
Rather than using cardioversion, this time they are going to use a procedure called Ablation, which apparently uses lasers. I can't wait for that; Last time James Bond tackled a laser, he shagged Pussy Galore and drove around in an Aston martin DB5... I hoping for  the same treatment.

I had an conflict with a man on the train this morning. I was sitting at a aisle table seat when a man appraoched me and grunting and pointing at the empty seat beside me. I took this to mean "Is that seat taken? please may I sit down?"

I folded my paper and stood to let him pass, but he sat in my seat. I stood there for a couple of seconds stunned and very concious that I was now blocking the carriage full of commuters from getting passed me.

I asked the guy to move over, but he just sat there, staring into his mobile with noise leaking from his headphones. I asked him to move again; He ignored me. 

With a flash of inspiration and fastest I've ever thought on my feet I whipped the hat from his head; That got his attention. 

Oh dear I though to myself, he's pretty small but he looks tough and I don't want to get a punch in the face with my glasses on.

Glasses hold you back from everything - you can't go in a mosh pit or get into a fight without first saying 'hang on a sec while I put my glasses away'.

I thought the best thing to do would be to deploy a diversionary tactic, so I threw his had down the carriage and took a step back. He got up, looked at me and walk to get his hat. He didn't come back. I sank into my reclaimed seat.

After 24 hours of flying I arrived in Rarotonga, settled in to my hotel, played with the decorations and checked out the beautiful views
Then it was one last flight to Aitutaki to spend 24 hours in isolation before boarding a boat for bound for Shark island.
