You would assume you would be pretty restricted in what you can produce on a desert island with a box of rations, 2 rusty cooking pots, a dozen mess tins, a fire pit and wooden spoons & forks. Nevertheless with a little cunning, a lot of ingenuity and dash of flair you can knock up some pretty good grub.
All three courses were outstanding. Nadejah, Kevin, Sasha and I tackled the Main course and made a pretty good job of it seen as it had to feed 14 as their main evening meal. Nadejah did some lush tuna dough balls and I tackled the pasta, tomato marinade and griddled corn beef.
Had I been judging, I would have awarded the winning course to the Starter (Maz, Greg, Xanthi & Bene). It was amazing – Gourmet Burgers with actual bread and Papaya (pawpaw) chutney. It was technically complex and had flavours which complimented each other so well. I do however see why the judges (Matt, Lois and Mackenzie) awarded the winning dish to the dessert... purely because who the team contained - Mark, Rosie, Doug and Dan... 75% of whom are culinary inept. They managed to pull together a visually stunning and tasty dessert consisting of coconut, pineapple, papaya, banana and apricot. It looked like it could be served at a 5 star island resort.
Next week we take it one step further as I bake Rosie a Birthday cake and Nadejah makes scones... very yummy!
